Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gangneung Solhyang Arboretum was established in 2008 in the area of San 135, Gujeong-ri, Gujeong-myeon, Gangneung-si, and opened on October 30, 2013. It is located in Yongsogol, a scenic spot in Gangneung, on the slopes of Chilseongsan Mountain, which preserves a primeval forest of Geumgang pine trees. The area where the arboretum was created has long been called Yongsogol, named after a legend that a dragon ascended to heaven here, and under the theme 'A Meeting Place in the Thousand-Year Forest,' it has carefully nurtured Geumgang pine, the representative tree species of Gangneung, boasting the natural state of the native forest. The arboretum covers approximately 78.5 hectares (240,000 pyeong) and features 23 diverse themed gardens with 1,127 species and 220,000 plants. From the entrance, visitors can experience the sounds of water, the scent of flowers, and the fragrance of pine trees. It includes a forest ecological observation trail with colonies of spicebush and snowbell trees, the Thousand-Year Breath Healing Path with a thousand-year wait, a Pine Forest Plaza embracing Geumgang pine, and exhibition gardens themed around various wildflowers such as the Hosta Garden, Daylily Garden, Medicinal Plant Garden, and Dye Plant Garden, offering diverse seasonal landscapes. Among them, the 'Thousand-Year Breath Healing Path,' where native Geumgang pine trees stretch tall, is the representative walking course of the arboretum. Address: 156 Sumokwon-gil, Gujeong-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
