Yeongwol Kimsatgat-myeon [Slow City]

Yeongwol-gun is a place where mountains, water, and valleys harmonize beautifully. Not only does it boast stunning natural scenery, but visitors can also feel the traces of King Danjong, the unfortunate king who was deprived of the throne at a young age and killed, and Kim Sat-gat, a wandering poet and genius poet of the late Joseon Dynasty. In addition, well-preserved pristine natural environments such as Gosu Cave, a Natural Monument, and the Kim Sat-gat Historic Site make it the most optimal place to experience tranquility and leisure. The area also holds various cultural resources, including a cultural festival held every October to commemorate Kim Sat-gat's spirit of the times, his cultural and artistic spirit, and to reexamine his literary value through his humorous and satirical perspective. In recognition of these preservation values, it has been designated an international Slow City. Furthermore, Yeongwol-gun is a special zone for museum towns. In Kimsatgat-myeon, the core content area, there are as many as 8 museums. Through the museum town development project, museums reflecting regional characteristics are being attracted and competitiveness is being strengthened, finding value in intangible aspects such as fostering and utilizing human resources, building networks, and developing themed experience programs and cultural products. Various museums are in operation, including Byeolmaro Observatory, Nango Kim Sat-gat Literature Museum, Yeongwol Y-Park, Danjong History Hall, Donggang Photography Museum, Yeongwol Cave Ecology Hall, Gangwon-do Coal Mine Literature Village, Donggang Ecology Information Center, Yeongwol Radio Star Museum, and Art Creation Studio.
