Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Deokgasan Mountain is a beautiful mountain located in Kimsatgat-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do. With an elevation of 832m, it is famous for its spectacular cliffs, valleys, and waterfalls that stretch for dozens of meters. From the summit of Deokgasan, the major mountains of Yeongwol can be seen at a glance, making it a particularly popular hiking course among mountaineers. One of the most popular spots on Deokgasan is Eolkuri Valley and its waterfall. Eolkuri Valley is a clear and cool valley that flows along Okdongcheon Stream, ideal for swimming in the summer. There are several waterfalls of varying heights, among which Eolkuri Falls, at about 20m high, is the tallest. Due to its height, the powerfully falling water and the deep pool below are beautiful. Gosu Cave, located at the southern foot of Deokgasan, is named after the Go family who are said to have lived there during the Goryeo period. The cave is about 300m long and contains various types of limestone and cave organisms. At the entrance of the cave, there is the Gosu Cave Culture Center where visitors can learn in detail about the cave's history and ecology. Near the summit of Deokgasan, there is a five-story stone pagoda believed to have been built during the Joseon Dynasty, with patterns and carvings adorning each level. Deokgasan, with its living nature and history, attracts not only hikers but also many tourists.
