강원특별자치도 철원군 갈말읍 내대리 산147-1

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Cheorwon Seungil Park is a neighborhood park located in Naedae-ri, Galmal-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, right next to the Seungil Bridge and the newly built Hantan Bridge, which stand side by side. Construction of the Seungil Bridge began in 1948 when Cheorwon was under North Korean control, but was halted halfway due to the war; ten years later, in 1958, the South Korean government completed the half of the bridge that had been left unfinished. Cheorwon Seungil Park, located next to the Seungil Bridge, nicknamed 'Korea's Bridge on the River Kwai,' has a large parking lot along the main road, making it easy to access. From the park, visitors can see both the old Seungil Bridge and the newly built Hantan Bridge spanning the Hantan River at once, and it also serves as a starting point for Hantan River rafting, attracting many visitors in the summer. At the entrance, there is a Taebong Gate sculpture indicating that Cheorwon was the capital of Taebong, and passing through the gate, visitors will find a sculpture representing the columnar joints of the Hantan River and Seungiljeong Pavilion, which offers a panoramic view of the Hantan River. Above the park, there is a walking trail that leads to the Seungil Bridge.
