Why travelers stop here
Geumdang Valley is a valley located in Daehwa-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun. This valley, which winds between Bongpyeong-myeon, Yongpyeong-myeon, and Daehwa-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun, is situated in the upper reaches of the Pyeongchang River, and is called Geumdang Valley because it lies at the foot of Geumdangsan Mountain. It is also called Sip-gae-su because it flows through twelve villages in Pyeongchang-gun.
Geumdang Valley has a wide river width and strong currents, and is also well known as a rafting spot. In deep areas, anglers also visit to enjoy fishing. Along the meandering valley stream, the natural, primitive beauty of the mountain ranges and rock cliffs creates a mysterious harmony that inspires admiration. Near the lower part of Geumdang Valley, if you cross Bonghwa Bridge and go a little further, you will see Bonghwadae (a beacon fire mound) standing tall, and its appearance is also a splendid sight.
