Hyoseok Cultural Village Buckwheat Food Street

강원특별자치도 평창군 봉평면 기풍3길 31

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Bongpyeong, in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, is the hometown of novelist Lee Hyo-seok (pen name Gasan) and the actual setting of his short story "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom." Every September, the Hyoseok Cultural Festival is held here to honor Lee Hyo-seok's literary spirit amid fully bloomed buckwheat flowers. During the festival, visitors can enjoy traditional foods, various hands-on activities, and exhibition programs in a space that recreates the traditional Bongpyeong market of the 1930s. In September, you can enjoy blooming buckwheat flowers, artworks, and buckwheat dishes all at once, but if you prefer a quieter trip, the off-season is also a good choice. Even when it is not market day, buckwheat restaurants in Bongpyeong operate year-round, and artworks themed around buckwheat flowers are also on display throughout the year.
