강원특별자치도 태백시 태백산로 4834-31 (소도동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Danjong Daewangbi is a pavilion housing a monument erected in 1698 (the 24th year of King Sukjong's reign) when the tomb of Nosan-gun was posthumously elevated to Jangneung Royal Tomb. It is located approximately 100 meters from Yongjeong in Taebaeksan Mountain toward the Cheonje-dan Altar. On the front of the pavilion hangs a plaque reading 'Danjong Bigak,' known to be in the handwriting of Monk Tanheo, and a legend associated with this monument has been passed down orally. Travelers can encounter this pavilion, inscribed with the phrase 'Joseonguk Taebaeksan Danjong Daewangbi (朝鮮國太白山端宗大王碑),' about 500 meters below Manggyeongsa Temple along the Taebaeksan hiking trail. Additionally, a pavilion honoring King Danjong is also erected at Jangneung, his royal tomb in nearby Yeongwol, allowing visitors to explore the history and traces of King Danjong in both locations.
