Why travelers stop here
At Hwabangjae, where National Road 31 and Local Road 414 intersect, follow National Road 31 toward Taebaek for approximately 3.6 km, then branch off onto Sanaegol-gil, which splits to the northwest. Following this valley for about 0.9 km, Taebaeksan Tourist Farm is located to the west, and the old tree 'Sanaegol Pine Tree' is situated on the eastern hillside. The Sanaegol Pine Tree is a multi-stemmed pine with an umbrella-like shape, with branches extending evenly in all directions from a straight central trunk. Its age is estimated at about 500 years, with a height of 20 m, a chest-height circumference of 3.1 m, a crown diameter of 21 m, and a crown area of approximately 314㎡. Local residents call it 'Jeongipumsong' because its shape resembles the Jeongipumsong Pine Tree of Songnisan.
