Biraeam (Gangwon Peace Region National Geopark)

Biraeam is an intrusive rock body located at the top of Mansandong Valley, with a height of 100m and a width of 500m, surrounding the area, and is also called Byeongpungbawi (Folding Screen Rock). It is a large rock that stands alone, and its name originates from the legend that a rock flew from Geumgangsan (Mount Kumgang) and landed here. The quartz porphyry that forms Biraeam has small particle size and is dense and solid, making it resistant to weathering, and it is characterized by forming high cliffs with vertical slopes or forming talus on mountain slopes.
