Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Beopheung Valley is a beautiful valley located in Murungdowon-myeon, Yeongwol-gun. Originating from Sajasan Mountain and flowing through Beopheungsa Temple into Jucheongang River, the valley is so clear and clean that fish that only live in first-grade water can be seen, and the valley water flows abundantly. Gathering pristine waters from high peaks over 1,000 meters above sea level such as Saambong Peak, Sajasan Mountain, and Baekdeoksan Mountain, this place is home to rare native fish species such as crayfish, salamanders, shiri (Korean shiner), yellow perch, and softshell turtles, as well as the endangered and protected otter, making it a natural treasure trove. In the valley, you can collect fish or insects and observe various plants, making it a great place for children to play in the water and observe nature. On both sides of the valley, where beautiful pine forests spread out, there are campsites and pensions, attracting many vacationers in the summer. Also, at the entrance to Beopheung Valley is Beopheungsa Temple, a thousand-year-old temple. Beopheungsa Temple houses many Silla Buddhist cultural assets, including Heungnyeongseonwonji, Jinghyoguksa Budo (pagoda), and Jinghyoguksa Tapbi (stele).
