Why travelers stop here
Seongwangsa Temple was founded in 1967. According to legend, while the founder was performing a hundred-day prayer, an elderly man wearing a formal official hat and robe, along with an elderly monk, called out the name Bak Gwi-ran and bestowed a large book, instructing her to make the salvation of all beings her life's mission. Then, the sound of a bell rang twice, guiding sentient beings through the Buddhist Dharma. Near Seongwangsa Temple are Taebaek Experience Park, Taebaeksan Auto Camping Site, and Yeonhwasan Mountain. Additionally, it is close to Mungok Station, so taking the train is recommended. (Source: Taebaek City Culture and Tourism)
