Maebongsan Mountain

Maebongsan Mountain is located east of Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do. At an altitude of 1,268m, it is the highest peak on the ridge branching west from Hambeaksan Mountain of the Baekdudaegan. The south consists of a natural cliff, while the north is a gentle slope. The dense old pine forest harmonizing with the rocky cliffs is very beautiful, and the autumn foliage is especially considered the highlight. The representative hiking course of Maebongsan Mountain starts from Asinae Village in Naedeok-ri. Passing through Metdungol from Asinae Village, a cart path appears. Following this path, a spring and an altar appear on the right side of the mountain path. From here, it becomes a bumpy stone field path. Passing two hut sites and climbing a steep slope, you reach the main ridge facing Duwibong Peak to the north. Heading southwest from here, you climb a steep ridge, and the end of the ridge is the summit. A triangulation point is embedded at the summit. The view unfolds to Baegunsan, Guryongsan, and Samdongsan Mountains to the east, the Okdongcheon Valley to the south, and the Muguksan Mountain range faces you. Also, the Baekdudaegan stretching from Seondalsan Mountain to Sobaeksan Mountain comes into view. The mountain ridge leading to Danpungsan Mountain to the west is entirely cliff on the south side. In addition, Asinae Valley flows below Maebongsan Mountain, and there is a campground near the valley where camping and homestays are available.
