Dojik Beach

Dojik Beach is a simple beach located in Dojik-ri, Okgye-myeon, at the southernmost tip of Gangneung-si, with a length of 500m and an area of 50,000㎡. It was named Dojik because the beach is perfectly straight. With the opening of the Donghae Expressway, the village was divided into two areas, and residents moved collectively, leaving the original village gone. As the village name suggests, it is a rare place where five routes—national highway, railway, expressway, air route, and sea route—run in parallel lines. Dojik Beach has clean sand and a wide parking lot, making it a quiet beach popular with families. For accommodation, visitors can use local homestays. There is a simple parking lot of about 3,000㎡ and a campsite of about 1,000㎡ that can accommodate approximately 66 tents. Because Dojik Beach is a military area, barbed wire fences are installed, which brings a sense of solemnity and fear, and reminds visitors once again of the pain of national division. Many people visit Dojik Beach to enjoy swimming, but there are also many anglers who come to catch greenling.
