Why travelers stop here
Located in Gyo-dong residential district, the bustling center of Gangneung, Ligo-EM welcomes visitors with a signboard reading 'Quilt Experience Travel.' The combination of quilting and travel feels fresh. Upon entering, various quilted products—from large and small bags to cushions and accessories—catch the eye. After joining the Tourism Dure (community-based tourism) initiative, CEO Kim boldly rebranded from Kim Joo-young Quilt to the new brand Ligo-EM. Ligo-EM is a blend of Latin and English, carrying the meaning 'Life Is Going On in Eternal Moments.' Taking the first letters of the English words spells LIGO-EM. Once you know the hidden meaning, the name lingers in your mind. To integrate quilting with tourism, Ligo-EM operated a pilot program called '1 Night 2 Days Gangneung Sewing Trip.' Participants were recruited through online cafes and bands where quilting and sewing enthusiasts gather. The program included a sewing experience at Ligo-EM followed by visits to Gangneung's major attractions such as Gyeongpo Beach and Anmok Beach. Currently, Ligo-EM is developing regular experience programs and travel programs, incorporating detailed feedback from participants to improve shortcomings. The programs are designed to be enjoyable for everyone, from those interested in sewing to those with no prior interest. There is one principle: since it is not just a pastime, participants must create useful items. CEO Kim describes making items for personal use with one's own hands, letting go of distractions while focusing on the moment, as 'an experience of encountering a new culture.' A unique travel souvenir that remains valuable even after returning to daily life can be a good companion and a lasting hobby. For this reason, high-quality materials are used, and CEO Kim carefully teaches and assists to ensure the quality of each piece.
