Osaek Chima Pokpo (Five-Color Skirt Waterfall)

강원특별자치도 양양군 서면 오색리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Chima Pokpo is a beautiful waterfall formed by clear streams flowing down from Deokjugol, near the ticket office of the Osaek district in Seoraksan National Park. The water spreads widely as it falls, resembling the elegant hem of a woman's skirt, which is how it got its name 'Chima Pokpo' (Skirt Waterfall). There is an old legend associated with this waterfall. Long ago, while heavenly maidens were bathing in the nearby Seonnyeotang (Fairy Bath), a celestial official descended from the sky and secretly hid a maiden's skirt. When the skirt fell to the ground, it transformed into this waterfall. Along with the mystique of the legend, the natural beauty attracts numerous visitors every year. The area around the waterfall is surrounded by dense forests and clear valley waters, offering different scenery throughout the four seasons. In summer, it is a great place to cool off with the sound of refreshing water, and in autumn, it creates a watercolor-like landscape with the autumn foliage.
