Seongguksa Temple

Seongguksa Temple, a small temple you encounter after passing Osaek Mineral Spring, was founded by Doui, the founder of the Gajisan Order in the late Silla period. It is said that Muyeom, the founder of the Seongjusan Order, became a monk at this temple, but little else is known about the temple's history. A tree with five-colored blossoms in the back courtyard led to the temple being named Osaeksaksa (Five-Colored Stone Temple), and the nearby area was also renamed Osaek-ri. The Osaek Mineral Spring, which flows from the bedrock of the valley below the temple, is also said to have been discovered by a monk of this temple. The temple was long abandoned as a ruined site, but in recent years an Inbeopdang (Dharma hall) was built and it was named Seongguksa Temple, continuing its legacy. Depending on the season, beautiful natural scenery such as lush greenery, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes unfolds, drawing many visitors to Seoraksan Mountain to linger. With its elegant architecture, spacious parking lot, and well-equipped rest areas, it is ideally suited as a tourist destination. In addition to its permanent facilities, there are many spaces for children and experiential learning rooms, contributing to the cultural activities of various visitors.
