Hongcheon Mugunghwa Village

Mugunghwa Village boasts beautiful natural scenery where the meandering Hongcheon River harmonizes with the splendid mountain ranges. It is a historic place where, during the Japanese colonial period, independence activist Nanggung Eok (Namgung Eok) promoted the mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) nationwide to inspire the people with national spirit and cultivate patriotism. Hongcheon holds the National Flower Mugunghwa Festival every October.

At Hongcheon Mugunghwa Village, visitors can enjoy traditional cultural experiences such as herbal tea ceremony using mugunghwa, herb pressed-flower making, straw craft experiences, and barley bread making, and can tour the village on a tractor observation ride. Additionally, through the memorial hall for independence activist Namgung Eok, viewing the Mugunghwa Garden, straw craft experiences, mugunghwa tea making, and mugunghwa pressed-flower making, visitors can also engage in traditional culture and history experiences. Located in the upper reaches of the Hongcheon River, a pristine natural area, Mugunghwa Village offers water play experiences, freshwater fish catching, and rafting at Bambyeol Recreation Area. Visitors can also walk along the Yuribong Trail and Baebawi Trail with their children to see and learn about wildflowers and various trees. Hongcheon Mugunghwa Village is equipped with accommodations and restaurants, making it a great place for family trips or group tours.
